Bandari FC winger Abdalla Hassan is determined to deliver an impressive season in the Kenyan Premier League as he seeks to earn a recall to the national team, Harambee Stars, ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Speaking ahead of the new league campaign, Hassan said he was motivated to raise his performance levels and work hard on the pitch in a bid to reclaim his place in the national team.
“My target this season is to score and assit as many goals as possible so that I can earn a chance to feature at AFCON,” Hassan said.
The winger, who previously played for Tanzanian side Coastal Union before returning to Bandari, believes the club’s attacking department has strengthened and is optimistic that his partnership with fellow forwards will cause problems for opposing defences.
“We have Lawrence, and if we combine well up front with (Mohammed) Beja and Msaga, we will score a lot of goals,” he added.
Hassan has previously represented Harambee Stars, making 19 appearances and scoring six goals before losing his place in the squad following a dip in form.
He is now confident that a strong campaign with Bandari will help him rediscover his best form and attract the attention of the national team selectors.
Bandari are set to open their new league campaign against AFC Leopards on Wednesday, with Hassan expressing confidence that the Dockers will begin the season on a winning note.
He acknowledged the competitive nature of their encounters with Leopards but insisted that Bandari are determined to secure maximum points in their opening fixture.
“Our matches against AFC Leopards are always competitive. Sometimes we beat them, while on other occasions we settle for a draw. This time, however, we are well prepared to win our opening match,” Hassan said.
A strong start to the season would provide Hassan with an early opportunity to demonstrate his ambitions as he pursues a return to Harambee Stars and a place in Kenya’s AFCON 2027 campaign.
Kenya will co-host the African Cup of Nations tournament alongside Uganda and Tanzania.
