Why Ganda by-election is important to Aisha Jumwa

With about three weeks to the Ganda by-election in Malindi constituency, campaigns have gained momentum compared to past weeks.

The contest in the by-election is not about the three candidates that will face off on October 17 but between Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa and the ODM brigade in the county.

Jumwa is fronting Abdulrahman Mohamed who is running on an independent ticket. He is the immediate former MCA.

The ODM brigade is supporting Reuben Katana. Other candidates are David Mitsanze of Kadu Asili and Joseph Kiponda of Jubilee.

Either way the mini poll goes, Jumwa will be the winner. A win for Mohammed will affirm Jumwa’s status as the modern day Mekatilili while a win for Katana will still leave Jumwa without a bruise.

As she always say, ‘It’s me against the whole ODM brigade’

Two weeks ago several ODM MPs from the county and over 10 MCAs converged in Ganda and launched a charm offensive against Mohammed’s supports.

Kilifi governor Amason Kingi who is ODM’s chairman in Kilifi county has not set foot in the ward to campaign for his candidate.

This has left many guessing if indeed the governor is still interested in the party.
