When he made his first public appearance since he was taken to forced quarantine, Kilifi deputy governor Gideon Saburi assured Kilifi residents that he was fit enough to steer the county as governor Amason Kingi proceeds on leave.
This was on May 11th when he accompanied Kingi to officially open the Bamba sub county maternity wing and theatre.
“I am here to support the fight against the coronavirus. I have officially resumed work and I will do the job the governor will assign me. I will assume duties as I have always done. I will stand in for the governor to relieve him of the burden he has had to bear while I was away,” said Saburi
Since then, Saburi has not made other public appearances. It is not even clear whether Kingi went on leave as promised.
The whereabouts of the second in command public servant in Kilifi county still remains a top secret.
Most officers in the county government do not want to talk about it.
Health CS Mutahi Kagwe when he visited Kilifi county last week also refused to talk about the Deputy governor when journalists asked about him.
Sources close to the DG however, indicate that he has been hospitalized.
“The DG has been unwell for some time now. He is currently hospitalized in one of the hospitals in Mombasa. He underwent some operation but I cannot tell you what his ailment is,” said the source in confidence.
