Hoteliers in Watamu have decried the frequent water shortage in Kilifi hotels
They are now afraid visitors may cancel their bookings after taps went dry for over five days now.
Garoda resort resident manager David Mwita said, they are forced to hire water bowsers to ferry water to their facilities so as to allow them run their business.
Speaking at the hotel, Mwita said that Kilifi water companies have always interefered with water reticulation to hotels for the last three years especially during tourism high season.
“We have over 300 guests who came during the Christmas holidays but water shortage has always dealt us a blow. Fresh water is always a nightmare here,” said Mwita
The manager said, the trend is a threat to the industry.
Mwita said, despite hotels paying huge bills for water among other essential services their premises have suffered from the shortage for some time now.
Juma Karisa a Safari seller at Watamu beach said, they have received complaints from tourists both from hotels and private houses which he said is a setback to the industry.
Karisa said tourists share their experience on social media during their holidays and such might tarnish the reputation of Watamu as one of the best tourist destinations in the world.
This is one way of killing tourism in Kilifi. The government MUST do something
