Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested three suspects linked to the brutal murder of Kilifi County IEBC official, Ms. Aisha Abubakar, during a daring robbery at her residence in Nyali on January 5, 2025.
The suspects, identified as Isa Omari, Brian Shikuku Mudari, and Bryan Templer Oyare, were apprehended in separate operations across the coastal region after a seven-day manhunt. The arrests, coordinated by DCI Kisauni and supported by the Operation Support Unit (OSU) and the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau, followed a meticulous forensic investigation.
The attack occurred at 3 a.m., when intruders forced their way into Ms. Abubakar’s home by cutting through the kitchen window’s metal grills. Armed with crude weapons, they subdued her son, knocking him unconscious, before launching a vicious assault on the IEBC official.
Despite her desperate pleas for mercy, the attackers stabbed her multiple times before fleeing with valuables, including two Samsung phones, an iPad, a 65-inch TV, a sound system, and ATM cards whose PINs they had demanded.
Neighbors, alerted by the commotion, rushed to the scene and attempted to save Ms. Abubakar by taking her to Premier Hospital in Nyali. Tragically, she was declared dead on arrival.
Following the crime, detectives launched a rigorous investigation, piecing together evidence from the crime scene and conducting forensic analysis. This led to the recovery of one of the stolen phones belonging to Ms. Abubakar’s son and other crucial exhibits during the arrest of the suspects.
The suspects were flushed out of their hideouts in what authorities described as “separate but coordinated operations.”
While the arrests mark significant progress in the case, the investigation remains ongoing. Authorities aim to establish the exact number of individuals involved in the attack and ensure all culprits are brought to justice.
The brutal murder of Ms. Abubakar has left the Utange community in shock, with calls for heightened security in residential areas to prevent similar incidents.
Ms. Abubakar, a respected IEBC official, is remembered for her dedication to public service.
She served as the election manager for Magarini constituency in 2022.
Her tragic death is a wake up call for the urgent need to address rising insecurity in the region.
