Nominated Senator Miraj Abdillahi now wants devolved units to fully invest in a conducive business environment to enable youth to engage in business activities.
Miraj said Governors play a critical role at the grassroots in harnessing business ventures.
‘’County governors have a significant responsibility in spearheading business ventures amongst youths,’’ Miraj noted.
Miraj who was addressing the press in Mombasa noted that investing more in youths will relieve them off the burden of unemployment.
The vocal senator pointed out that youth have been complaining of heavy taxation among other obstacles that in the long run obstructs their urge to engage in business.
She further said youth who have ventured into businesses should be given a three-month grace period before being subjected to taxation.
“I will officially write a letter to the Council of Governors Chairperson, Kirinyaga Governor, Anne Waiguru urging her to advance the youth needs within the counties and offer grace period to youth engaging in business for at least three months before they start paying taxes and other required license charges,” she said.

She urged the national government to initiate measures which will enable youth to start and sustain their small-scale businesses.
Miraj noted that youth have for long struggled to sustain their small business and become self-reliant but over taxation has been their greatest bother.
She urged Governors to equip youth with relevant skills that will enable them to sustain their lives.
Miraj said equipping the youth with relevant skills aligned with the available resources around them is one critical way of fighting unemployment.
“The Blue economy sector can directly benefit youth from the Coast region. It is imperative for Coast Governors to invest more on training youth from these counties on relevant technical causes so that they reap from the vast blue economy initiatives,” noted Senator Miraj.
She further urged Coast Governors to always advance youth needs so that they do not feel discriminated against and their development ideas thrashed.
