Saburi arrested for failing to quarantine

Kilifi deputy governor Gideon Saburi has been arrested.

Saburi was picked at the Coast General hospital by a contingent of about 20 detectives who drove him off to the Port Police to record a statement.

He was driven in a convoy of five cars.

The detectives spent over five hours waiting to arrest the DG who was still holed up in his isolation ward at the facility.

Saburi put many at risk after attending official county functions following his return from Germany.

It is not clear what charges will be preferred against the deputy governor.

Before coming out from the ward, the DG spent about an hour with his family and his lawyer.

On Thursday, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe announced that Saburi has been discharged after recovering from COVID-19.

The CS said the process to prosecute him can now begin.

ā€œIā€™m pleased to announce that deputy governor of Kilifi has fully recovered after being subjected to three tests and coming out negative,ā€ Kagwe said.

The detectives camped at the hospital from 9am but the DG is yet to come out claiming he is waiting for a pair of clothes to change.
