Uhuru re-shuffles cabinet, drops Echesa


President Uhuru Kenyatta has fired reorganized his Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa in a reshuffle done on Friday.

Echesa was replaced by his Education counterpart Amina Mohamed.

Tough talking Kenya National Examinations Council (Knec) Chairman George Magoha was nominated to replace Ms Mohamed and run the Education docket if cleared by Parliament.

Broadcasting and Telecommunication Principal Secretary Fatuma Hirsi was also shown the door.

Six Principal Secretaries were also re-assigned through Executive Order No. 3 of 2019.

Susan Mochache has been moved to the Health Ministry from Environment.

She has replaced Peter Tum who has been moved to the State Department of Labour.

Ali Noor Ismail has been moved to the State Department of cooperatives while Ibrahim Mohammed moved to the State Department of Environment and Forestry. He has previously served as PS Mining.

Natural resources PS Margaret Mwakima has been moved to the State Department of East African Community Affairs replacing Susan Koech who has been moved to the State Department of Wildlife.

The Head of State said the changes were aimed at equipping and positioning his government in its implementation of the Big Four Agenda— housing, affordable healthcare for all, and manufacturing and food security.

The President added that the shake-up was targeted at enhancing efficiency, transparency and accountability at all levels of government through a governance structure and leadership that ensures rapid delivery of public services to Kenyans.
