Ganze MP Teddy Mwambire eulogized Kamoti as a dedicated leader who always had the interest of his people at heart.
Rabai MP William Kamoti is dead.
Kamoti died on Sunday night at stage ya Maziwa in Mnarani near Kilifi town along the Mombasa Malindi highway after car was involved in an accident.
Kilifi north sub county Jonathan Koech has confirmed the accident.
According to eyewitness, the accident occured at around 9.30pm when the MP was heading to Kilifi for a meeting with ODM Kilifi gubernatorial aspirant Gideon Mung’aro
His driver is fighting for his life at the Kilifi county hospitalKamoti’s car rolled after his car collided with the side of an on coming lorry which was heading towards Mombasa.
Kamoti was cleared by the IEBC to vie for the Rabai MP for the third time.
Eric Nyamawi who took part in helping Kamoti and his driver said they spent over 30 minutes trying to get help to take them to hospital.
“I saw the vehicle rolling. When we reached where it landed we saw two people one of them was lying outside with his legs trapped in the car. The driver was on his seat. We rescued them but unfortunately the other person whom we did not know was the MP died before we got assistance to take him to hospital
Kamoti is serving his second term. He was elected on an ODM ticket.
“I received a call from Nairobi and I immediately called his wife to ask if he had returned home but she said he was not around. I called two MCAs but they did not have the information. I later got confirmation and rushed here to receive his body,” said Mwambire
Kilifi North MP Owen Baya said Kamoti’s death was a big loss to the county.
“He was an eloquent leader who offered guidance to many MPs in parliament. He was humble and dedicated to serve his people. It is such a sad day to all of us,” said Baya
A postmortem will be carried out on Monday morning before he is interment the same day according to islamic rites.
