A female student at Pwani University is fighting for her life at Kilifi county hospital after being attacked by her estranged boyfriend.
Naomi Chepkemboi, a third year public health student at the Kilifi main campus was stabbed several times on her breasts, neck and back by the boyfriend identified as Nichols Koech.
Koech claims he sired a daughter with Naomi but her parents have been against their relationship.
Kilifi north sub county police commander Njoroge Ngigi confirmed the incident that occurred on Sunday morning.
Koech is said to have travelled from Nairobi to Kilifi. He locked himself in the house after the attack.
Eugene Ochieng’, a classmate and neighbor to Chepkemboi said he received a distress text asking him to rescue her.
“The boy came at 6.am from Nairobi. At first Naomi refused to open the door and we don’t know how he convinced her to open. After a while I received the text from her which said come and open the door for me please. I went and inserted my hand to open the door but someone twisted it and I immediately removed it. That is when I alerted others who came” said Ochien’g.
Ochien’g said the landlady pleaded with Koech to open the door.
“He opened the door and we found Chepkemboi lying down unconscious in a pool of blood with knife wounds. There were two knives beside her,” he said.
Ngigi said Koech is currently in custody and would be arraigned in court on Monday.
Pwani Univesity Student Association President Fikirini Jacobs condemned the incident and called for justice for Naomi.
He urged students to stay calm as doctors’ work to save her life.
“As we tirelessly struggle to see the best of the Doctors efforts save her. I request that we pray for our sister. Secondly, may we remain calm as I am personally at the centre of the struggle and justice shall surely be served by all means necessary” said Fikirini
The attack comes barely a week after another student Ivy Wangeci was hacked to death at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital by her lover.
