One of the main suspects in the September 12 abduction and assault of prominent blogger Bruce John Khajira, also known as Chawa-001, has been apprehended.
Omar Ali Mohamed, who goes by the alias “Nyanya,” was detained at the Lunga Lunga border while attempting to flee to Tanzania.
Omar Ali had reportedly been evading authorities since the incident. His capture marks the result of a coordinated effort by DCI detectives and the Immigration Department, who tracked the movements and potential escape plans of those implicated in the case.
Detectives confirmed Omar Ali’s involvement through forensic evidence, which linked him to both primary and secondary crime scenes.
Detectives also uncovered his communication with other suspects before, during, and after the incident.

Key evidence includes a grey Nissan Note, registration number KDQ 394C, which was reportedly hired by Omar Ali on August 20 and returned on the evening of September 12, following the assault.
Investigators determined the vehicle was used to transport Khajira from his home to a construction site in the Bonje area, where he was assaulted.
The vehicle was later tracked to Mwakirunge, where the victim was abandoned. The car has since been seized and detained as evidence.
Omar Ali is now in custody, with detectives continuing to investigate and pursue additional suspects who remain at large.
DCI officials have urged all accomplices to surrender at any police station or DCI office.
Detectives have emphasized that all individuals involved will be held accountable regardless of their societal standing.
