The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) nominations are beckoning.
Nominations are the biggest headache for any aspiring politician.
In Kilifi county, the ODM nominations are the most closely monitored primaries. This is due to the following the party commands in the county.
Four aspirants will face off in the ODM nominations in the gubernatorial race.
They are Gideon Mung’aro, Jimmy Kahindi, Francis Baya and Dan Kazungu.
Kahindi enjoys a huge following in the ODM membership circles compared to the other candidates.
This means, in a fair playing field he would floor the rest and carry the day.
On the other hand, Mung’aro is popular with the electorates compared to the other contenders. If ODM uses the IEBC register and allows any registered voter to participate in the nominations, Mung’aro would emerge victoriously.

This is the main reason Mung’aro has been pushing for consensus while Kahindi is vouching for nominations.
Kahindi has built a large following in ODM.
Baya and Kazungu have stayed way too long from the political scene in Kilifi. This works to their advantage in winning the nomination ticket though they can perform well in the general election compared to both Mung’aro and Kahindi.
The senatorial race is pitting the incumbent Stewart Madzayo and Fikirini Jacobs.
If the two are subjected to a fair nomination, Madzayo would most likely be sent home.
Though a novice in politics, Fikirini commands a larger following compared to Madzayo both in the ODM circles and in Kilifi County.
Madzayo is a weak candidate to beat both at the nomination and the general election.
