Music Industry Mourns the Loss of ‘Rafiki Pesa’ Hitmaker Shari Martin

The Kenyan music industry is in mourning following the death of legendary gospel artist Shari Martin, renowned for his timeless hit “Rafiki Pesa.”

Martin passed away on August 2, 2024, at the age of 54 while receiving treatment at Kenyatta National Hospital.

The news was confirmed by Martin’s close friend and fellow artist, identified only as Pauline.

Pauline, who is assisting with the burial arrangements, shared that Martin had fallen ill on July 27, 2024, and was subsequently rushed to the hospital, where he was diagnosed with pneumonia.

“Martin was recovering well and was supposed to be discharged. But he developed breathing difficulties. Unfortunately, he did not make it and passed away on August 2, 2024. We later learned that he had been battling the condition for a while and had not sought any medical attention until it became severe,” Pauline said.

Family and friends are gathering at Mzee Matthew Komora’s residence in Chokaa, Kangundo Road, Nairobi to make funeral arrangements.

Shari Martin leaves behind a significant legacy in the Kenyan music scene, with “Rafiki Pesa” standing out for its powerful message.

Other notable songs by Shari Martin include “Mambo ya Dunia,” “Tangazo la Ajabu,” and “Wanadamu ni Waongo,” among others.
