Jomvu Member of Parliament Badi Twalib now wants the Mombasa County government to invest in sports grounds, including rehabilitating all sports grounds within the county.
The move Badi says will upscale the sports industry in the county.
’’We are looking at how we can tap talents within our teams. I’m privately working with stakeholders from Nairobi on how we can single out some of the extraordinary talents within.’’ The MP said.
The vocal MP said the sports stadia in the county do not meet the required standards.He further pointed out that ‘Some of those sports fields are Bangladesh where we want to ensure that it is rehabilitated to benefit the community,’’
The lawmaker was speaking to the media after launching the Badi Twalib Super Cup at Bangladesh grounds on Sunday.
The legislator said the winner of the 10th soccer tournament will take home Ksh300000.
’’The winner will be awarded Ksh300000. This is to motivate the teams to venture into sports,’’ he noted.
Meanwhile, Lands and Town planning County Executive Committee member CECM Mohammed Hussein reiterated the county’s commitment in upscaling the sports industry.
He said the county government is set to invest in soccer stadiums in bid to upscale the sports sector within the county.
Speaking in Jomvu sub county on Sunday Hussein admitted that the county is currently experiencing a shortage of playing grounds.
He noted that this is due to lack of ample space precipitated by a rise in population growth.‘Yes there is a shortage of playing grounds. This is due to the increase in the number of people.’’ He noted.
At the same time Mombasa woman member of parliament Zamzam Mohamed said there is a need to nurture talents in the county.
‘’We appreciate what Hon Badi has just started. This is commendable. Our youths will be fully engaged.”
