Locusts like insects seen in Ganze sub county

A team of agricultural officers has been dispatched to Malanga in Ganze Sub County where residents found insects that resemble the invasive desert locust.

The insects were found on trees near Independent Faith Baptist church at Dzifahe, Malanga in Sokoke ward.

“We received photos from the ground and we are now heading there to establish if it is indeed the dreaded locusts,” Said one of the officers who sort anonymity.

Last week the department of agriculture held an emergency meeting after a false alarm that the destructive insects have been spotted in Ganze

The meeting was convened by Agriculture CEC Luciana Sanzua

Locusts are short-horned grasshoppers that often increase greatly in numbers and migrate long distances in destructive swarms.

The insects have caused havoc in North Eastern region of Kenya
