Governor Joseph Lenku expressed deep sorrow over the passing of former Tanzanian Prime Minister Edward Lowassa on Saturday, stating that it has left the Maa nation in East Africa mourning.
Lenku conveyed in a statement, “The Maa nation in Kenya, and indeed, the entire East Africa, have lost a son who dared to dream; a son who proved every dream is valid; and a son who inspired many of his people on the significance of fighting for space of the Maa nation at the national table.”
Lowassa, who succumbed to a prolonged heart illness, had been a frequent visitor to Narok and Kajiado counties in Kenya, often attending political rallies in Suswa area, Narok.

“Having served as Prime Minister from 2005-2008, under President Jakaya Kikwete, Mheshimiwa Lowassa was a critical pillar in one of Tanzania’s most successful political regimes,” emphasized Lenku.
Lenku highlighted Lowassa’s aspiration to become Tanzania’s president in the 2015 elections, underscoring its significance in showcasing the Maa people’s involvement in East African governance.
“As we come to terms with this catastrophe, it is my prayer that our Lord Almighty will give his family, friends, the Maa nation, and the people of East Africa, the strength to withstand the shock that comes with the loss of such a meticulous and inspiring leader,” Lenku expressed.
The governor emphasized Lowassa’s profound impact as a source of inspiration for the East African Maasai people, portraying him as a pillar of their aspirations.
Lenku recalled his long acquaintance with Lowassa, citing him as a man of integrity whose actions in Tanzania propelled him into politics and motivated him to follow in his footsteps.
“Lowassa stood with the East African Maasai before and after he served as Tanzania’s prime minister. He knew his people well and consulted widely to correct things that stood between development and his people,” Lenku remarked.
He concluded by praying for divine strength for the Maa nation as they mourn their departed leader.
