Kilifi county leaders have urged the Mijikenda council of elders to chart a political path for the Mijikenda community ahead of the Chenda Chenda festival.

The leaders led by Kilifi County governor Gideon Mung’aro said for many years the community has been riding on other political inclinations.

‘’As we head towards the Chenda Chenda festival I ask our elders to give us directions on our political path. We have for many years stayed behind the scenes,’’ he noted.

Mung’aro said the community has not been at the national table, a move he says pulls down the community.

Mung’aro noted that the festivals slated to be held in Kayafungo location on Monday 9 will bring together the entire Kilifi County leadership.

‘’Our community has not been at the national table and this has let us down as a community,’’ he said.

At the same time, Deputy Majority Leader Owen Baya called on the county leadership to unite for a common goal.

He noted that it is only through unity that the area will experience development.

‘’We shall follow each and every word that our governor says. Let’s all unite,’’ Owen said.

Kilifi county speaker’s teddy Mwambire called on the Mijikenda community to work closely with the leadership in a bid to bring about development.

He claimed that some leaders have had a habit of preaching divisive politics.

‘’Let’s unite as a community. Some have a habit of preaching divisive politics. We shall not entertain such leaders,’’ Mwambire said.

He called on the Mijikenda elders to chat about a way forward for the community.

Mwambire further asked Kilifi County governor Gideon Mung’aro to work closely with his Kwale counterpart Fatuma Achani.

Meanwhile, Kaloleni lawmaker Paul Katana warned a section of leaders planning to disrupt the Chenda Chenda festival slated for Monday 9.

He urged leaders to respect the county government leadership saying he Mungaro was elected by a majority of votes.

We shall deal with anyone who has bad intentions in our festivals. Let us respect this institution. Mungaro was elected by the people, he said.
