The Kilifi Youths for Change Movement, a lobby group in Kilifi County, has expressed frustration over what it describes as abandonment by the political class after every election cycle.

In a statement released to the media on Friday, the movement’s leadership accused elected leaders of exploiting young people for political gain, only to neglect them once in office.

“For far too long, we, the youth of this county, have been used as mere stepping stones in politics—rallied behind during campaigns, only to be discarded once elections are over,” the statement read.

The group emphasized that this cycle of neglect and exploitation must end.

“It is time for the youth to reclaim their power and demand the respect and empowerment they rightfully deserve,” they added.

To chart a new course, the movement has scheduled a meeting in early April to discuss strategies for breaking free from political manipulation and advocating for meaningful change.

“This is not just another meeting; it is a movement. A movement for dignity, respect, and real opportunities. If we do not stand up now, the cycle will repeat itself,” said one of the leaders, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

The movement further urged young people to rise and claim their constitutional rights.

“We must come together, unite our voices, and demand real leadership that prioritizes youth empowerment—not just empty promises,” the source emphasized.
