Kilifi Governor Gideon Mung’aro Delivers State of the County Address

Kilifi County Governor Gideon Mung’aro on Wednesday delivered his State of the County Address at the Kilifi County Assembly Chambers.

The Governor acknowledged the challenges facing the county, including the hard global economic environment, high inflation rates, and an absolute poverty rate of over 70%.

Despite these challenges, Governor Mung’aro said he is focused on delivering on his campaign promises of providing solutions to the people of Kilifi, promoting an enabling environment for economic growth and prosperity, and lifting the people out of poverty.

The Governor’s address covered a wide range of topics, from public administration and intergovernmental relations to infrastructure and social services.

In the public administration and intergovernmental relations sector, the Governor reported on the successful constitution of the County Executive Committee and the appointment of Chief Officers, which formed a firm foundation for his administration.

He also reported on the recruitment of a new County Public Service Board, which is now discharging its mandate.

Governor Mung’aro emphasized his commitment to upholding high levels of integrity and promoting the values and principles of public service. He cited an example of allegations of lack of integrity in the supply chain division, which led to the suspension of affected officers.

A committee was appointed to receive complaints and make recommendations. The committee recommended restructuring of the supply chain division and establishing a standing complaints committee.

The Governor also highlighted his administration’s plans to establish a Delivery Unit and a Donor and private sector coordination unit to strengthen coordination with development partners. This collaboration will provide an opportunity for the county government to align the operations of different partners with associated government line departments.

In the infrastructure sector, Governor Mung’aro reported on the progress made in the construction of roads, water supply systems, and other infrastructure projects. He cited the completion of the Mariakani-Bamba road as one of the key achievements in this sector, which will improve connectivity and promote economic growth in the region.

The Governor also emphasized his administration’s commitment to improving social services in the county, including health and education. In the health sector, the Governor reported on the progress made in the construction of health facilities and the procurement of medical equipment. He cited the ongoing construction of the Kilifi County Teaching and Referral Hospital as a key project in the health sector, which will improve the quality of health services in the county.

In the education sector, the Governor reported on the progress made in the construction of classrooms and the recruitment of teachers. He cited the ongoing construction of the Kilifi County Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Institute as a key project in this sector, which will provide the youth with the skills they need to compete in the job market.
