Kilifi County director of budget and economic planning Wilberforce Mwinga has declared his candidature for the Kilifi county senatorial seat.
Speaking on Sunday when he officially launched his campaign at Bale in Ganze constituency, Mwinga said his bid is unstoppable.
“I have consulted widely over the matter and now I have started the journey to take Kilifi to another level. I have the experience and I am confident of a win come 2022,” said Mwinga
The director of budget who hails from Rabai sub-county was also endorsed by five sitting MCAs, two former MCAs and Kilifi county chief officer for roads Kenneth Kazungu.
Kazungu also declared interest for the Ganze parliamentary seat.
The campaign kicked off at the Shimo la Tewa MCA Sammy Ndago’s Bale residence.

Mwinga will possibly face-off with his boss, the chief officer for finance Ben Kai who has also shown interest for the seat.
City lawyer George Kithi has also shown interest for the seat. Mwinga launched his bid a few metres from Kithi’s home.
MCAs who endorsed Mwinga are Sammy Ndago (Shimo La Tewa), Nixon Mramba (Kakuyuni), David Kadenge (Malindi Town), George Baya (Watamu), Jana Tsuma (Ruruma), and Maitha Masha (Jaribuni).
Former MCAs who endorsed Mwinga are Daniel Mangi (Bamba) and Anthony Nzaka (Mwawesa)
Ndago said Mwinga is part of a formidable team that will take the leadership positions in Kilifi county.
“Mwinga has vast experience in budget matters. This experience is vital in making sure the county is propelled to the next level. This team you see here will form the next government. We have started here today and we will move together,” Said Ndago
Tsuma said the time where the Rabai community is used as a top-up community is gone.
“We were not created to be somebody’s running mates. We will go for the senate seat and we seek your support. We leave the deputy governor position to other communities but as a sub-county, we will push Mwinga to capture the seat,” said Tsuma
Kazungu said he will make sure Ganze constituency supports Mwinga.
“He has been working for Kilifi county government for the past eight years. He has demonstrated good leadership skills and I believe if we elevate him to be our senator then we are bound to benefit more as a county. I urge you to give him the immense support you have been giving me,” he said
On his part, Mramba said, as a director of budget, Mwinga has been working closely with MCAs.
“The senator makes sure he fights for the right share of the county from the national government. When the share is finally released he is supposed to make a follow up on how the funds are being utilized,” said Mramba
