Ganda ward

Kilifi county deputy governor Gideon Saburi and his health CEC Anisa Omar were on Friday heckled in Ganda ward when they converted a development meeting into a campaign rally.

The two, accompanied by other Kilifi leaders were in Mkaomoto in Ganda ward for the groundbreaking of the Mkaomoto dispensary.

Things however went south when instead campaigned for ODM candidate in the forthcoming by-election

Mkaomoto is the home turf of the immediate former MCA for Ganda Abdulrahman Omar Mohamed who is now defending the seat as an independent candidate after ditching ODM.

The dispensary project is the brainchild of Mohammed before the court annulled his election.

Other leaders who were present include former Malindi MP Willy Mtengo, Phillip Charo who unsuccessfully contested the Malindi parliamentary seat in 2017 and lost to Aisha Jumwa. A host of MCAs from the county including John Mwamtsi (Kibarani) Gilbert Peru (Sokoni) Caroline Kalume (Mwawesa) nixon mramba (Kakuyuni) and Daniel Chai Chiriba alias Bonyeza (Jilore) were also present.

It took the effort of armed police officers and the county askaris to quell the fracas that threatened the event.

Police later allowed the youths who were heckling to return to the rally after an agreement with the ODM supporters but they never kept quiet until the meeting ended.

The Deputy Governor said the meeting was a county government development function to launch the dispensary and should not be interpreted as a political rally.

However, he endorsed the candidate for ODM Reuben Katana who was present urging locals to vote for him during the By-Election set for October 17.

”We came to launch a project which is important for Kilifi County. The project has nothing to do with politics. It’s because the county government understands the problems of Ganda people that’s why we are initiating such a project,” he said.

When he stood to address, youths heckled him but were later silenced after both police and county government security moved in and kept guard.

He brushed off the hecklers as anti-development.

”We want the project to be done in the right way. It needs a proper driver Reuben is in ODM now we have officially received him,” he said.

Saburi said the ODM candidate has blessings from Party leader Raila Odinga, the Deputy party leader Hassan Joho and Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi who is the party chairman in Kilifi County.
