A highly anticipated sitting of the Kilifi County Assembly to question the Health CECM, Peter Mwarogo, was suspended on Wednesday due to lack of quorum, leaving key health sector concerns unresolved.
The session, chaired by Speaker Teddy Mwambire, required at least 17 Members of County Assembly (MCAs) to proceed, but only 15 were present.
“The House could not proceed with the scheduled agenda due to quorum issues. Only Hon. Peter Shehe had officially communicated his absence,” Speaker Teddy Mwambire
Mwarogo was expected to answer tough questions on pending bills, unfinished health infrastructure projects and persistent stockouts of essential medical supplies.
However, the session was suspended just moments after the roll call revealed inadequate numbers. Speaker Mwambire stated that only Jaribuni MCA Peter Shehe had formally informed the House of his absence, citing international travel.
The CECM had earlier requested the session be rescheduled to the next financial year in July, citing a prior engagement with auditors from the Office of the Auditor General.

The committee was expected to deliberate on the request before the session was called off.
Although unconfirmed, sources indicate that a significant number of the absent MCAs may have been attending a meeting in Voi, Taita Taveta County, with Governor Gideon Mung’aro.
The assembly, which has a total of 51 MCAs (35 elected, 16 nominated), is set to reconvene on Thursday to question Yaye Shosi, CECM for Finance and Felkin Kaingu, CECM for Education.
The upcoming sessions are expected to focus on budget implementation and education service delivery.
Key on the table is the scholarship fund where many students whose education is being funded by the county government are still at home for lack of fees.
Kilifi residents and watchdog groups have raised alarms over the deteriorating state of the health sector, particularly the lack of drugs and delayed completion of health facilities.
Speaker Mwambire called on MCAs to prioritize their oversight role, noting that the health and well-being of Kilifi residents must come first.
