Kenya covid-19 cases rise to 1192 as 31 test positive

Kenya has recorded 31 new covid-19 cases, President Uhuru Kenyatta has announced.

This now brings the total number of covid-19 cases in the country to 1192.

“We have so far tested 57,640 samples of which 1192 persons have tested positive,” said Uhuru

The cases were recorded fro 2, 566 samples tested in the last 24 hours.

The number of fatalities still remains at 50. Uhuru said this while addressing the nation from statehouse on Saturday.

President Uhuru said the country cannot afford to remain under lockdown, hinting at a possible lifting of the restrictions in the near future.

He challenged Kenyans to take responsibility when that time comes.

“I have told my Cabinet Secretaries that we cannot stay in lockdown forever. But if we open up the country by lifting the restrictions and the virus continues to spread, it will be our fault for not taking the precautions outlined,” he said.
