I have no grudge with Governor Mung’aro-Teddy Mwambire

Kilifi county assembly speaker Teddy Mwambire has denied the existence of bad blood between him and Kilifi governor Gideon Mung’aro.

Speaking in Sokoke ward during a funds drive in aid of Ziwani Primary school, Mwambire said he has been discharging his duties in accordance with the law.

“The governor is a good friend and we work together in discharging our mandates to the people of Kilifi. He is in charge of the executive while I am in charge of the legislative arm of the county. I have worked with him very well and he has been supporting me even in today’s fundraising he has sent his contribution,” he said

For some time now, social media was awash with news that the two leaders have been at loggerheads with some saying the governor wanted Mwambire impeached as the speaker.

Two weeks ago, the governor’s address at the county assembly was interrupted for 45 minutes after power went off and the standby generator failed to start.

Some regarded the matter as a sabotage to show the inefficiency of the speaker to lead the assembly.

On Wednesday, Kayafungo MCA Agnes Sidi who was said to be fronted to take over from Mwambire issued a statement that she has no interest in the speaker’s seat and those spreading the rumour are doing it out of malice.

“…That I am sponsoring honourable members in this house to remove the speaker so that I can take over. Again Mr Speaker my name and pictures of my family members have been circulated in print and social media sites linking them to the same malicious story.  These false accusation linked against me and my family have caused mental anguish character assassination, profiling threats and endless abuses. I want to categorically state before this house that I do not have any intentions of becoming the speaker of this assembly. I respect the current office holder..” said Sidi

She urged the public to ignore the rumours and promised to report the matter to the DCI for investigation.

Both Mwambire and Mung’aro are ODM members.

Mwambire is the ODM Kilifi county chairman. Because of the seniority in the county leadership, some ODM members including MCAs wanted Mung’aro to take the ODM chairmanship.

He took over the position after former Kilifi governor Amason Kingi ditched ODM to form his Pamoja African Alliance Party.

Mwambire said there are procedures to be followed on the election of a chairman.
