Gen Mwathethe’s term extended by one year

President Uhuru Kenyatta has extended the term of Chief of Defence Forces General Samson Mwathethe by one year.

While announcing the changes on Monday, Kenyatta said he acted on the advice of the Defence Council. The extension takes effect from May 6, 2019

The President also upheld recommendations by the Defence Council chaired by Defence Cabinet Secretary Amb Raychelle Omamo on promotions, appointments and postings of officers of the Kenya Defence Forces.

The council which met the president at State House also recommended the promotion of 22 senior officers and appointment of three others.

In the changes that take effect immediately, Brigadier Said Mohamed Farah was promoted and named the Director Military Intelligence (DMI) while Maj Gen Adan Kanchoro Mulata was promoted to Lt General and named the commandant National Defence College.

Brigadier Jonah Mwangi has been promoted to Major General and appointed Assistant Chief of Defence Forces Operations, Doctrine and Training.

Also promoted was Brigadier Joseph Kivunzi to Major General who has been appointed General Officer Commanding Western Command.

Brigadier Albert Kiprop has also been promoted to Major General and appointed Commandant, Kenya Military Academy.

Brigadier (Dr) George Nganga has been promoted to Major General and appointed Director of Medical Services.
