Man Utd completed the signings of Uruguayan duo Edinson
Manchester United completed the signings of Uruguayan duo Edinson Cavani and Facundo Pellistri on deadline day of the summer transfer window.
Edinson Cavani has congratulated Facundo Pellistri on his transfer to Manchester United.
The Uruguayan duo moved to Old Trafford on deadline day and will be eager to make an impact in the first team after the international break.
United announced a deal to sign free agent Cavani on Monday night before later confirming the arrival of 18-year-old winger Pellistri from Penarol.
Pellistri joins United on a five-year contract, with an option to extend for a further year, after the club accelerated plans to sign the South American winger late in the window.
United had wanted to sign the 18-year-old for over a year and MEN Sport understands he is set to go straight into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first-team squad.
Pellistri knows it will be a huge step up to make it at United but he has already been welcomed to the club by hugely experienced striker Cavani.
Taking to social media on Monday night the veteran shared news of compatriot Pellistri’s arrival and sent him a welcoming message to the club.
“Congratulations Facu. Safe travels for we will be awaiting you to accompany here,” Cavani wrote on Instagram.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was desperate to sign a new right winger in the summer window with Pellistri and Diallo both announced on deadline day. United missed out on priority target Jadon Sancho, but the manager is delighted to be welcoming Pellistri to the club.
“Our scouts have followed Facundo for a long time and we believe that he will be a real talent for the long term,” Solskjaer told club media. “Whilst we understand it will take time for him to adapt to the English game, he is capable of having an impact with his pace and ability to beat his opponent.
“Facundo has the perfect platform at Manchester United to develop and he has all of the technical qualities and the right mentality required to become a top player here. We are all looking forward to working with him to fulfil his potential over the coming years.”
