Sleuths from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission EACC have raided the homes of Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu in Garden Estate and Runda, Nairobi.
A contingent of EACC detectives arrived at the residence on Thursday morning in search of documents relating to contracts issued by Waititu’s administration.
Waititu is under the EACC radar over alleged corruption in his county. Sources privy to the investigation revealed that 15 other officials of the county government are also being investigated.
“We have teams out there at the Governor’s homes and at the residence of 15 other staff at the county to gather information,” said the source.
The Kiambu governor is facing allegations of procurement irregularities and unexplained expenditures in the county.
Waititu has also been questioned over his recent property acquisitions, including that of a building located within Nairobi’s central business district.
In response Waititu claims the investigations are politically instigated. EACC has been conducting a lifestyle audit on Waititu and says they have gathered crucial information that they are now using as the basis of their probe.
KRA is also investigating if he has paid his taxes in the past years. Waititu has denied claims of corruption and insisted his property was legally acquired.
As some officers raided Waititu’s Runda home, a separate team was camping at another residence at Bellcrest Gardens on Githunguri Road in Kileleshwa.
It is suspected that the posh home belongs to one of the officers targeted in the investigations that are likely to result in arrests.
