Desert locusts invade Kilifi, residents turn them to a delicacy

Swarms of desert locusts have invaded Kilifi and destroyed crops and pasture.

At Tangini village in Marafa, residents devoured the pests which they said are nutritious.

Locust invasion in Magarini. Villages affected: Timboni and Kanagoni- Marereni sub location and Masindeni in Garashi.

By Thursday, the areas affected were Magarini, Malindi, Ganze and Kilifi North sub-counties.

In Magarini, the locusts were reported in Timboni and Kanagoni, Marereni sub-location, Tangini village in Marafa, and Masindeni in Garashi.

In Malindi, they were spotted in Jilore while in Ganze they were spotted at Ndugu mnani village.

Swarms of the destructive desert locusts also invaded Mkongani in Kilifi North sub-county.

On Thursday, the Kilifi county food security committee visited Magarini to assess the invasion by desert locust.
