Kilifi county assembly speaker Jimmy Kahindi on Monday declared Dabaso ward seat vacant.

This is after the election of Emmanuel Changawa (ODM) was nullified by the court following a petition by Amani National Congress (ANC) candidate Dickson Karani. Karani moved to the high court in Malindi after the magistrate’s court failed to overturn Changawa’s win.

While making the announcement the Speaker directed that all privileges and responsibilities of the former MCA be withdrawn.

“I declare that Hon Changawa ceases to be a member of the county assembly of Kilifi. All privileges are withdrawn. I wish him all the best,’’ he said.

Kahindi is expected to formally write to the IEBC to set a date for the by election within 90 days.

Changawa called for support from both the Dabaso electorates and the ODM party.

“I have been loyal to ODM and I therefore expect a direct ticket and support to reclaim the seat,” said Changawa
