A section of catholic priests in Mombasa county wants the government to track and prosecute drug lords involved in trafficking drugs in the county.

Speaking to the media in Mombasa on Wednesday, Mtongwe Catholic church priest Father Henry Ndune said the business negatively impacts youths within the county.

“It is high time the government tracks, arrests and prosecutes drug barons. This business has hurt our youths and something should be done,” he noted.

The priest cites Likoni and Kisauni as the most affected sub-counties in the county.

He further urged Kenyans to report any criminal related incidence to the relevant authorities.

“Kenyans should come out and report to the authorities any form of crime. Most of our youth between the ages of 18 to 35 falls become victims of drug and substance abuse,” he said.

The Catholic faithful asked the police to avoid using excessive force but instead adhere to the law.

The priest called on the youths to avoid what he termed as being misused by the politic class ahead of the 2022 general elections.

Said the priest “Our youths who form a larger part of our population should avoid being misused by politicians. I ask them to take any form of cash that they are normally assisted with by our politicians but should avoid being politically misused”

He asked youths especially those aged between the ages of 18 -35 to preach peace amongst Kenyans.
