Kwale County police commander Ali Nuno has been promoted and named the Coast Regional Police Commander in a major reshuffle affecting high-ranking police bosses.
Nuno takes over from George Sedah, who was transferred to Nairobi to replace the long-serving regional commander Adamson Bungei.
The changes, announced by Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, aim to enhance operations within the National Police Service. Known for his no-nonsense approach, Nuno has garnered a reputation for effectiveness, with many expecting him to address Mombasa’s persistent challenge of machete-wielding criminal gangs.
“I am ready to serve,” Nuno said, welcoming his new role.

The reshuffle also saw significant transfers in other regions and departments. Kiambu police commander Michael Nyaga Muchiri was appointed the new National Police Service Spokesperson, replacing Dr. Resila Onyango, who has been reassigned as the Commandant of the Diplomatic Police Unit.
In another major change, Bungei, previously serving as Nairobi’s regional commander, was recalled to police headquarters and appointed Director of Operations, replacing former Presidential Escort Commander William Yiampoy, whose next role remains undisclosed.
Other notable changes include the transfer of the head of legal at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Amos Omuga, to the National Police Service headquarters at Jogoo House. Dr. Mwangi Wanderi, formerly heading the National Forensics Laboratory at the DCI, has been named Director of Human Capital at Vigilance House, replacing Rosemary Kuraru, who moved to the DCI as head of the National Forensics Laboratory.
Michael Sang, previously in charge of the Serious Crime Unit at the DCI, was promoted to Eastern Regional Head of the DCI. Daniel Korir, formerly Eastern Regional Head of DCI, has been moved to the Kenya Airports Police Unit (KAPU) as Commandant.
In community policing, Judy Jebet now leads the department, taking over from John Gachomo, who was redeployed to police headquarters. Rhoda Kinanu, previously Commandant of the Diplomatic Police Unit, has also been moved to police headquarters for redeployment.
These adjustments reflect the National Police Service’s commitment to addressing emerging security challenges and enhancing efficiency across its operations.
