Voi sub county police commander Bernastein Shali said the accident involved a 14 seater Matatu and a lorry.

“The matatu rammed onto the lorry and four people perished on the spot. The matatu was ferrying people from Murang’a to Mombasa while the lorry was heading to Nairobi. The driver might have been exhausted due to the long journey,” Shali said.

According to witnesses, the matatu was overtaking another vehicle before colliding with an oncoming lorry.

The bodies were taken to Moi Referral Hospital mortuary.

Shali urged drivers to exercise caution, warning that the heavy downpour that is being experienced in the area might adversely affect visibility.

“The area is a black spot and we urge all road users to exercise caution so as to avoid such grisly accidents,” he added.
