Three people died on Saturday night while 22 others sustained serious injuries after two vehicles were involved in an accident at Gede along the Malindi-Mombasa highway.
Malindi traffic police boss George Naybei said the accident involved a Mombasa bound Matatu and a Toyota wish which was heading towards the Malindi direction.
Naybei said the driver of the Toyota wish died on the spot while two other occupants succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment.
He said the Toyota wish was trying to overtake another vehicle when he noticed the oncoming matatu.
“He could not immediately return to his lane hence causing the accident,” said Naybei
Malindi sub county medical superintendent Evans Ogato most of the casualties had serious injuries including broken limbs, arms and ribs, and head cuts.
